About AAKS and Ki Aikido

Zach's testimony as to why you should study at AAKS
Friday, 21 July 2006
During my seven years of Aikido practice at AAKS I have learned many things. I have greatly enjoyed the experience. Before finding this dojo, I was a student of XYZ Tae kwon do. This particular style focused on graceful and powerful kicks, yet lacked any memorable self defense. In my opinion, in an actual fight, you most likely will not be able to strike anyone of considerable skill with a flying kick. I have found Aikido to be very useful in defending yourself, the techniques make a lot of sense. The more angry and uncontrollable your opponent is, the better the chosen Aikido technique works. Yet there is more to this art than just physical techniques, it also teaches you to focus ki, the natural energy of the universe. Furthermore, I would like to mention the great job Sensei and the instructors at the Dojo have done to make it a comfortable place to learn. All the instructors are very friendly and helpful, I have learned something new during each class.

About Ki Aikido
Friday, 19 August 2005
Excerpt from the book "What is Aikido," by Koichi Tohei - 10th dan and founder of the Ki Society.
The principles of Aikido, most modern of Japan's Martial Arts, were discovered by Morihei Ueshiba. Its outstanding feature is that it made a great leap from the traditional physical arts to a spiritual martial art, from a relative martial art to an absolute art, from the aggressive, fighting martial arts to a spiritual martial art that seeks to abolish conflict.
